LE PERSPECTIVE / THE STORY

Traversal has raised $120 million in Series B funding at a $1 billion valuation, backing a push to let AI investigate and eventually fix failures in live software systems.

Kleiner Perkins, Redpoint Ventures and Khosla Ventures co-led the round, with Sequoia Capital, Battery Ventures and Amex Ventures participating. Traversal emerged from stealth in June 2025 and says its total funding now stands at $173 million.

The Hard Part Comes After Coding
AI can now generate code quickly, but production failures still demand an understanding of how services, deployments and infrastructure interact. Traversal wants AI agents to diagnose failures from evidence, not merely spot correlated alerts.

The company’s Production World Model combines telemetry, code, deployment histories and operational knowledge into a continuously updated map. Its Causal Search Engine tests competing explanations for an outage, while Traversal Workers can start investigations when alerts fire rather than waiting for engineers.

Traversal reports ninefold growth in annual recurring revenue so far this year and says customers ran more than 150,000 investigations last quarter, supporting over 4,000 engineers. Customers named in its announcement include Nubank, Harvey, PepsiCo and DigitalOcean. Those adoption figures are company-reported.

The risk is real: in Traversal’s ORCA-bench tests, the strongest of five general-purpose AI agents solved only 25.3% of medium-difficulty incident tasks. Accuracy fell to 10% when reports were vague, illustrating why live troubleshooting requires more than fluent answers.

New capital will fund research, engineering and commercial hiring as Traversal expands beyond root-cause analysis toward proactive remediation. The bigger question is whether enterprises will trust AI to change production systems, not just explain what went wrong.
