LE PERSPECTIVE / THE STORY

Chicago-based Ocient has raised $100 million in Series C funding to expand AI analytics for organizations handling enormous, fast-moving datasets. Co-led by BOKA Capital and OCA Ventures, the round brings the company’s total funding to $260 million.

The money will support OcientAIQ, its platform and industry-specific solutions for running analytics and AI agents on petabyte-scale data. Ocient says customers can query complete datasets rather than rely on samples, with governance and access controls built into the same system.

Why the Data Layer Matters
An AI agent is only useful if the evidence behind its answers can be checked. Ocient is betting that reliable, auditable decisions from existing data will matter more to enterprises than another chatbot interface.

Instead of asking a language model to perform the underlying analysis, Ocient runs that work inside its data engine. The company says this makes results reproducible and auditable, while limiting data movement and token costs. Its controls also track data lineage and restrict which information agents can access.

The architecture targets industries where missing a record matters. In cybersecurity, a team could search historical network data for the first appearance of a threat indicator. Communications providers could retrieve call and internet connection records across required retention periods without losing traceability.

Ocient will use the investment to expand delivery of its industry-specific AI solutions. Existing investors including Greycroft, In-Q-Tel and Buoyant Ventures joined the financing. Earlier this year, the company established dedicated subsidiaries for its India operations and national security business.

Ocient says it expects revenue to more than triple this year, although that is a projection, not a reported result. The challenge for CEO John Morris is moving enterprise AI into environments where accuracy, access control and repeatability are non-negotiable.

As more AI agents gain permission to act on company data, infrastructure that proves an answer is trustworthy may become as important as the model producing it.
