Lawyers bill by the hour, so software that saves them hours is a big deal. Legora, a legal AI startup, just raised $550 million at an $8.8 billion valuation, a big jump from the roughly $5.6 billion it was valued at earlier this year.
Atreides Management led the round, joined by Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity, Glade Brook and JPMorgan.
What Legora actually does
It helps law firms and in-house legal teams research legal questions, review huge piles of contracts and documents, and draft legal material. Its newest push is what it calls an "agentic operating system": AI that can carry out several steps of a legal task on its own, while lawyers stay responsible for checking the work and making the judgment calls.
The number that matters more than the valuation
Legora says its annual recurring revenue has passed $200 million, up from about $100 million earlier in 2026. More than 140,000 legal professionals across over 2,400 teams and firms now use it. Doubling revenue in under a year is a clear sign lawyers are actually paying for AI, not just trying it.
A crowded courtroom
Legora isn't alone. Rival Harvey raised its own $550 million round in September at a higher valuation. The US is now Legora's biggest market, and the new money will go into AI tools for taking on new cases, legal research and tracking upcoming regulations.
