Anthropic is bringing personal finance into Claude, letting US subscribers connect bank and credit card accounts and ask questions about their spending, balances and bills. The shift is significant: Claude can now answer using actual transaction data, not just figures people paste into a chat.
The feature began rolling out in beta on November 5 to users on Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US. Accounts connect through Plaid, with read-only access. Claude cannot transfer funds, manage accounts or place investments.
Your Finances in One Conversation
Ask where your money went this month, and Claude sorts spending across connected accounts into categories. Follow up with “Is that more than usual?” and it can compare previous months, flag a renewing membership or estimate what's left after upcoming bills.
It can also spot duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that have crept higher. Users can request weekly spending charts, bill calendars and adjustable dashboards, or ask what APR means and how much interest they have paid.
The Privacy Boundary
Anthropic says Claude receives account names and types, bank names, the last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions for accounts users approve. Bank sign-in happens through Plaid, not Claude.
Chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models. Connections can be revoked, and Anthropic cautions that important figures should still be checked directly with banks.
What Anthropic Is Betting On
There are no sponsored recommendations, ads or Anthropic-owned loans or banking products within the feature. It is meant to explain money, not give investment advice.
Anthropic says it wants Claude to work alongside licensed financial professionals and regulated institutions in the future. That creates a clear dividing line for now: Claude can help people understand their finances, but it cannot act on their money.
